FS: Thinkpad 600x

#1 Post by synchromesh » Wed Apr 04, 2012 10:43 pm

This little Thinkpad has a story. I recently got to hang out with a guy I knew back in high school and he has a nice garage. Being in IT he had a bunch of various laptops sitting around in the garage. I wasn't interested in newer Dells and all that junk but I did spot this little 600x sitting on one of the shelves. This beast was his wife's old machine and had some real dirt all around but booted up from the first time! So I took it home with me since he didn't care for it. I cleaned it up, put a new CMOS battery in and flashed the BIOS to latest. It's running good now! Here are the specs:

1. Pentium III mobile 500MHz
2. 576MB RAM (64 built-in + 2x256) - max!
3. 40GB 5400rpm hard disk with original IBM FRU sticker
4. CDROM + ultrabay hdd enclosure + floppy with external enclosure
5. 1xUSB, VGA, modem, sound, 2xPCMCIA, the usual
6. Zonet b/g PCMCIA wireless card
7. battery + 3-prong power brick
8. Type 2645-5EU, made 02/00

Everything seems to work ok although I wasn't able to test things like modem. Condition is decent although the bottom is pretty worn and paint is peeling on bottom doors with COA MIA. I swapped the trackpoint to a newer T40-type one since old one was too out. The screen is decent too. And the miniPCI slot can be converted to use an appropriate wireless card! Battery still holds some charge. I haven't tested it extensively though. I don't have much use for it but would hate to see it being recycled so offering to fellow Thinkpadders. It can run Windows XP just fine and could be a good basic browsing machine or typewriter for anyone.

I'll ask for $60 shipped in USA (it's a brick). Feel free to make me reasonable offers if you believe it's too much.

I had one of these with the 650MHz proc and 256MB of RAM. I seem to recall it having an EXCELLENT keyboard... it got handed down to one of my sisters who quickly destroyed it. :(

Yeah, the 600x one of those real IBM machines that were still built extremely well. Keyboard is great on this one too. Wish I had a use for it myself but I'm sure the new owner will appreciate it.
