I recently aquired a second T60, 1943 53u
Installed Windows XP, THinkpad drivers
It has 1 gig of ram
it run so much slower than my other t60
it seems like it accesses the hard drive A LOT
Any Ideas

Unless there is something wrong on that Windows install, you should do no more than buy more ram. Morelike max it out. Now Windows is using around 700mb of 1gb leaving 300 left for others. That's way too little. Therefore it uses hardrive a lot.

It's very likely you have a hard drive with bad sectors. Normally when I run into this issue, that is the problem. Download the free trial of HD Tune, install it, then check under the Health tab. If the hard drive has a problem it will tell you what it is.
I lost count...
