IBM 486SL 25 - what kind of screen?? need answer fast

the display is a 10.4". but is it a black and white or color-screen??

Don't know the model-number but it is a 486 25MHz

Can't give you a definitive answer without the model number!

Offhand I can't think of any 486/25 Thinkpad that came with a 10.4" display. The only 486/25 that comes to mind is the 710T Tablet which came with a 9.5" Mono display.

Look at the bottom of the laptop where the barcode is, there should be a number somewhere under the barcode that has four digits followed by a dash ( - ) then 3 letters or numbers. An example would be 9546-u9e, which is what my laptop has printed on it. If you can get that number, one of us should be able to identify the computer.

I recognize that laptop, it's a 350c, the very first laptop I ever owned. Yes, it did in fact have a color screen.

One way to tell a ThinkPad is color or not is by looking at the IBM logo. If it's blue, you have a monochrome model, if you have a red, green and blue logo, it's color.

thx for the answer:), I don't want a computer with black N white Lcd.

Do you know if the Thinkpad 386cpu-series, if someone there have color-screen?

I don't think that 286 have color lcd's. But maybe the 386 series. Should be fun to own a very old TP:)

Although the fact that my main-computer is a Dell-laptop. I always thought that IBM's quality was a bit higher. My choice fallen on the Dell cause i needed a desktopreplacement with good graphic-card. And the fact that new Thinkpads is a lot more expensive.

Any 386 laptops with color screens would be late production models. Not sure if IBM had any, but I'm pretty sure Compaq had a few in the Contura line.

what's the maximum of ram on this model?, anyone know that?

I will try to run Win 95 or NT4 on it. maybe 95 is the better chioce cause it's a lot faster and have support for USB through a patch from MS. Must just buy pc-card with USB.

I think the computer just will take 16bit pc cards, right?

If memory serves me right, the maximum amount of RAM is either 24 or 32. As far as USB goes, don't count on it, the only USB cards around are CardBUS and that laptop was made before that even existed.

is it a usual desktop cpu in the 350c?? (Don't know if mobile-cpu's existed already on this time. Maybe not because the heat was a lot lower)

If it's. Is it possible to replace the 25Mhz cpu with one on 50 or 66 MHz?

The computer uses a 486SL which essentially a 486SX with all the other chips that would normally be on the motherboard built in and no, it is not replacable, it is permanently soldiered onto the motherboard.
