F3507g/43Y6537 in a T61 + about antennas
Hi there!
How can it be checked if a card sold in eBay with FRU=43Y6537 can be used with T61-7661?
Is firmware version of an F3507g tied to a FRU or the same FRU might have multiple firmwares on its card?
And about antennas: what if only MAIN gets connected, but AUX is left as is? What is it for? My laptop already has some WWAN antenna installed, but just one...
Hope you can advice...

You can check the hardware maintenance manual (HMM);karlis-repsons wrote:How can it be checked if a card sold in eBay with FRU=43Y6537 can be used with T61-7661?

The T61 will not accept the F3507g without a modified BIOS, and also taping pin 20.
I think that different firmware versions of the card have different FRU numbers.

What limitations and risks can be expected if flashing BIOS and taping pin 20?BBip wrote:The T61 will not accept the F3507g without a modified BIOS, and also taping pin 20.

There are no limitations in using a modified BIOS, and there are no risks once the BIOS is installed. Perhaps there is a risk of failure during flashing the BIOS, but that small risk is present whenever you flash any BIOS.
Taping pin 20 will prevent the BIOS from turning off the unauthorized WWAN card, but that means that Fn-F5 will also not work to turn on/off the card.

People used BIOSes provided by Zender some time ago, but they were moved, also mydigitallife doesn't provide files now. Where to get such a modified BIOS and some feedback of people, who use such?

The Fn-F5 application also checks for hardware PID's, the taping of the pin 20 has nothing to do with it. Once the AcConnections.dll and Fn-F5 are matched to the PID you are trying to use. The card will show up on those screens.BBip wrote: Taping pin 20 will prevent the BIOS from turning off the unauthorized WWAN card, but that means that Fn-F5 will also not work to turn on/off the card.

Okay, the card will show up in the Fn-F5 menu, but will Fn-F5 be able to turn the card on/off? Taping pin 20 affects the hardware on/off functionality for the card, so the wireless on/off switch on the ThinkPad will not work on a WWAN card whose pin 20 is taped. Are you saying that Fn-F5, after being modified to accept the PID, will turn the card on/off even of its pin 20 is taped? How could it do so?!rssb wrote:The Fn-F5 application also checks for hardware PID's, the taping of the pin 20 has nothing to do with it. Fn-F5 will appear to be turning the card on/off, but how could it have any physical effect on what the card is actually doing? Even if it there existed a software instruction sent by Fn-F5 telling the card to turn itself off, how could Fn-F5 turn the card back on?
