X60/X60S/X61/X61S durability of SXGA+ upgrade

#1 Post by Weogo » Sun Apr 15, 2012 11:02 am

Hi Y'all,

For those of you who have done the IPS Tablet screen upgrade in an X60/X60S/X61/X61S,
I'm wondering what your experiences are as far as durability?

For my X61S install, there is adequate left/right clearance, but
top to bottom, the screen is quite snug between the top of the lid and the hinges, and
pressing on the two antenna wires at the left-side hinge.(The third, right-side antenna wire has enough room.)

The original Ultralight screen had some nice rubber bumpers between the lid and screen...

Thanks and good health, Weogo

that depends entirely on how meticulous one is with fabrication and how well you take care of the system.   systems i built in 2008/2009/2010 are still in service.   the only one i ever had fail was when an owner put his thinkpad on a couch and sat on the display.

if you plan to be hard on the system then you might consider an X61T/X61T or IPS X220.   either one would be more durable for heavy use.

Hi Erik,

Thanks so much for the reply!

I am quite careful with my laptops.

During my testing period I found the 1400x1050 resolution very useful.
And I'm a big fan if IPS screens.

I've been following a few folks attempting LED backlighting, and if I can get this

and

drop the temps a bit more, I'll be very happy.

Thanks and good health, Weogo

Are you saying you plan to replace it with a LED Backlit display? Do share on your journey forward.

Hi CnB,

There have been several posts about folks doing one-off changes from CCFL to LED backlighting, on X61s, and X41 Tablets.

A few folks are looking at how to get this down to a straightforward procedure, or possibly doing it for a fee.

Hopefully somebody soon posts more in depth information!

Thanks and good health, Weogo
