X301 BIOS Secure Erase Function Missing
X301 BIOS Secure Erase Function Missing
I've read here and elsewhere that long ago Lenovo added a secure erase functionality in the BIOS for X301's with and SSD. There's supposed to be a "Solid State Drive" entry in the "Security" menu in the BIOS.
I have the most recent version of the BIOS (3.15) and yet when I boot into the BIOS Setup Utility, I don't see this option. Any idea what's going on?

Nevermind, I answered my own question. You have to enable the functionality using this utility:

Maybe I'm just tired, but it seems needlessly confusing and roundabout.

Re: X301 BIOS Secure Erase Function Missing
They didn't want to add it by default in case the noobs start accidentally deleting their O.S.
The whole process is very tedious, thats why I went out a got a new SSD with TRIM to replace the OEM one.
Also can you do me a favor and check to see if your Inegrated Camera is working under Bios 3.15?
Mine stopped working.

The cameras on both my x301s are working with the 3.15 BIOS.

Thanks. Looks like I'm gonna have to wait for my new camera to arrive.

Re: X301 BIOS Secure Erase Function Missing
Yeah, I figured it was for some reason like that. But are the noobs really even futzing around in the BIOS? Do they even know how to get into the BIOS? And it does give you not one but two big warnings, before it erases. There are few things with compters where it asks you: Do you reall want to do this? You reply, yes. And then it asks you again: Do you really really want to do this? I'd think that would be enough to protect people.
