x201s Memory & SSD Recommendations - thank you

#1 Post by mobowhunter » Wed Apr 18, 2012 9:55 pm

I have an x201s with the original SSD from Lenovo. The hard drive is now full and I am going to upgrade to another SSD. I would like to get your guys help in recommending a current SSD model and memory.

For SSD's I was looking at the OCZ and Intel models with 256GB - would the OCZ Vertex 4 work with my x201s? what is the comparable in the Intel line up?

For Memory - I am planning on going with the Corsaid 2x4GB sticks, any thoughts?

Thanks in advance for your help and sharing your knowledge. I appreciate your time.

Intel SSDs have the lowest failure rate among SSDs, but failure rates for all drives are pretty low. From a performance perspective, the real benefit of a SSD is the latency and all SSDs are like .1ms, which means one drive won't seem faster or slower than the next. If space is an issue, you might want to look at the Seagate Momentus XT. It's a platter drive with a flash drive attached. Once it figures your tendencies, it offers near SSD performance. Plus they go up to 750GB in size.

I usually pick my memory up used on eBay as it's the cheapest there. I don't think the brand matters much any longer.

ZAZ - thank you.

Do you know if the x201s would recgonize Sata III SSD drives? I was trying to stick with true SSD drives as I travel alot and my computer goes through FAA secruity checklines probably 4-6 times a week. I have had a ton more luck with SSD drives lasting a couple years when the HDD drives could barely make it 6 months. I do not know why - just my experience over the last 6 yrs.

The X201s uses a SATA II controller, but it's unlikely you'd ever notice a difference.
