Need more space! What can I delete?
I noticed that I can probably get back 2GB from C:\IBMTOOLS and \IBMWORK, but what else can I delete? I have very little on here (MSWORD 2003, Visual Studio 6.0)...
Thanks
Thanks
Windows XP uses a file called hiperfil.sys to save everything it needs when Windows XP goes into hibernation. If you are like me, and never use the hibernate function, you can turn it off. By turning hibernate off, Windows XP deletes the hiberfil.sys. This can free up the as much disk space as the amount of ram that you computer has.Go to Control Panel/Power Options/Hibernation and untick the box.
In the Tools menu, click Internet Options. Click the General tab, and then click Settings.
Move the slider to the right to increase the number of recent pages cached, or left to decrease the number.
Launch Add/Remove Programs, choose add/remove windows components from the Control Panel and examine each item. Get rid of junk you don't need.
Windows allocates up to 10 percent of each drive for the Recycle Bin. This method made sense when drives were measured in megabytes. But these days, you can set the amount as low as 1 percent for a large drive by right-clicking on Recycle Bin, choosing Properties, setting the new percentage, and clicking on OK.
Check for other tweaks online - these are just a few suggestions.
