Background: the external display port works, so I can use the laptop with an external CRT. That tells me that the video chip itself is good.
I checked the inverter to make sure that it was plugged in securely. It was, so I replaced the inverter.
The result is the same as before: Fn-F7 rotates through two bright screens and one black one, so power is going to the screen during the 2-out-of-3 correct positions, but the result is simply bright vs. dark.
So, is the only weak link left the screen itself, or is there some other component that may be bad?
Thanks is advance,
Greg

Re: Dead T22 display?
Welcome to thinkpads.com!
One other thing besides the LCD panel that can cause a washed-out screen (brightness but no images) would be the video ribbon cable. In decreasing order of possibility, it may have become detached from the motherboard (re-seating the connector may help), is damaged in some way (tear or crack somewhere along its length) or it could have detached from the back of the panel. You also cannot rule out the video chip as the signal going out the VGA on the rear of the T22 is analog while the video signals going to the LCD are digital. If re-seating both ends of the ribbon cable does not solve the problem, then you could try replacing the cable with one that is known to work. They are fairly cheap. If that doesn't work, then you're looking at a bad LCD panel or bad motherboard. At that point, if you don't have another T2x display lying around to swap out, then you are talking about throwing some $$$$ at a system which may be worth less than a working LCD.
