SOLD: W500 (3.06GHz / 8GB / 320GB / WUXGA / Webcam + dock)

#1 Post by mr.motoring » Mon Apr 23, 2012 4:59 pm

This machine was my baby and is in very good condition. I swapped out the flimsy stock keyboard and in went a mint T61-era rock solid keyboard. NMB keyboard too, only the best! The machine is still under warranty until December of this year. Keyboard looks brand new, no wear on the palmrest, barely any wear on the top cover. The LCD is an LG unit and is bright and flawless. Much better than the Samsung screens, I've had both. This machine is basically maxed out for a W500. Only other upgrade would be a larger hard drive.

The dock has both keys for the lock.

Iiiiiiiiiinteresting!

These machines have switchable graphics to preserve battery life when you're mobile and not doing any heavy lifting? Or is that just the T500? EDIT: TuuS has kindly informed me that the W500 does have switchable graphics. Thanks!

Approximately how long do you get on that 9-cell? I work with the brightness cranked on my T61p and am generally lucky to eke out 3 hrs with the 9 cell...

Looks like the W500 uses the same 90W AC adapter as my T61p...? I have 4 of them... would be awesome if they're compatible...

Yes, the W500 does have switchable graphics. The Intel X4500MHD GPU is the integrated setup.

With the brightness set to max and OS running at idle, the battery gauge states 4 hours with the 9-cell. Of course, the runtime will be lower under a workload.

The W500 uses the same 90W AC adapter as all other 20V Thinkpads. I believe the W510 is the first W5xx that started to use the larger 135W adapter. Then the W520 jumped to the behemoth 170W power brick.

I can confirm that, I have a W510 and the power supply is huge. It will run on a 90w, but the w520 throws up boot errors if you don't have the high power adapter. I think there was a new bios that stopped the errors and it just gives you a quick warning now.

.....ummm
W500CTO models > did and DOES HAVE SWITCHABLE GRAPHICS ! > am using that to type (you can confirm this via the SUPPORT PAGE - (switchable)DRIVER listed for your relevant W500 model - not sure everey model cant with SW graphics - but CTO's defiantly has SW option (mine is 4058CTO - came with Vistx64 bus) and now runs Win7x64 beautifully. I have also a W520CTO+FHD etc etc....

The Power Supply (USA adaptor) is the same 90w that also fits in my T410s,T510 , EDGE520+WWan....T60p(2008) and T61p. ...etc.....

Since I already (very sadly) moved away from LeNOOOvooo products .... I would selling my 'collection' slowly but surely - if not sold they would be donated to my local primary school like have for last 30+ IBM/Lenovo laptops over the years. (made great toys for kids who keen to learn how to use laptops) - future IBMers!
Hope this helps

You're correct, but one thing I wanted to clarify is that CTO isn't a specific combination, it's a "configure to order" system and they vary widely. I believe ALL W500 had swithable graphics, but the T500 could come either way. If it is a CTO system, you need to do a parts lookup to be sure, otherwise you can lookup the model number to tell. However, "if" a model comes both ways, then CTO comes both ways.

ps. thanks for contributing Ausmike, and it's great of you to contribute your computers to future generations. Keep up the good work and hope you enjoy your W500, it's a great system.

At least winter is over, so this W500 should be able easily transition into the new colder climate it's going to move to up here :P
