Installing LTE module into X301

#1 Post by elvair » Wed Apr 25, 2012 2:50 am

Hey all,

I'm based in Moscow atm, and my favourite provider (called YOTA) just moved to LTE from 3G, they will stop all devices on 3g soon.

I had this great wimax card which worked perfectly, but since its LTE now, it will no longer work. I'm trying to figure out what kind of card I can get to use new LTE. I highly dislike all those dongles and want to have an inbuilt card.

It seems like Qualcomm released new card Gobi 4000, which would support LTE, however I'm having a hard time finding the right card, model number etc, and the one which would fit into my notebook.

From Lenovo web-site one can see, that Gobi 3000 are available for Lenovo notebooks atm, but i'm not too sure if that one would support LTE.

There is also HP mini-pci card - 634513-001 HP 4G lt 2510, but then again im not sure if that would be the right card for me.

Anyone can give me any clues, as to what kind of card should I get to use YOTA?

If I'm not mistaken LTE 4G uses Microsims and X301 doesn't support microsim.
What kind of ISP upgrades to 4G and cancels all 3G compatibility? Doesn't sound like something that any company would do.

LTE requires different antennas as well. You're better off using a usb or expresscard adapter supplied by your network.
