Just bought a T40 - but doesn't have bluetooth as listed

#1 Post by cjperera » Tue Jun 15, 2004 9:16 pm

I just purchased a T40 (2374W1B). According to the IBM website it should have bluetooth installed, unless I'm mistaken. Please see the link below.

Does anyone know if it is atleast bluetooth upgradable? I don't want to use a USB or PCMCIA bluetooth adapter. Does this mean I'll have to return the item, or will I be able to install a bluetooth modem and solve the problem.

Thanks.

What makes you think that it doesn't have Bluetooth? Does it have the Buetooth indicator on the indicator bar next to the WiFi indicator?

Based on the link you posted it should certainly have the Bluetooth daughter card installed, but pull the keyboard and have a look.

Thanks for the reply. Turns out that the configuration had explicitly stated "No Bluetooth" even though it's optional. The vendor apologized for the mistake and I'm in the process of trying to get one without Bluetooth but with the SXGA+ display instead.

My next question is, can I install part #91P7315 or #91P7319 on a T40 even if it isn't in the compatible list as shown in the following link.

The machine I'm looking at is a 2373X21 which is based on the 2373W3Y.

BTW, that's a nice link you provided. Easier than pulling up the service manual.

as long as the BT antenna is there, you most certainly can. i just put the bluetooth cdc card in my T42, which according the parts manual isnt supposed to be compatible. its not even supposed to have the antenna, but when i open it up, there it was!

That's great news. I'll open up the machine when I get it. Do you remember the part # for the bluetooth card?

Thanks.

yup, if you have have a t42/p, then you need 91P7319, but if you have a t40/p or a t41/p then you need the 91P7315. however, if you want to see the bluetooth light, youre also gonna have to get the clear plate. the part number for that is 13R2455. that part numbers gives you EVERY plate combination possible. it ended up costing me 66.50 for the bt/modem card, 11.00 for the plates and 12.00 shipping. pretty expensive when you can get something that does the same thing for so cheap. its to have it intergrated though, as if it came like that from teh factory.

Thank for the info gosha16. Unfortunately I'm getting a nice deal for the notebook (I think I am), and they don't have one with built in bluetooth at the moment. Besides, I still don't have a bluetooth enabled phone, so it can wait.

Either 91P7315 (Bluetooth II) or 91P7319 (Bluetooth III) will work in T40 or T41.
