Resource conflict PCI network controller
Resource conflict PCI network controller
Morning folks, a little background, when I purchased this T43 1871 it did not charge but would run off of the battery. I piggybacked a new fuse into the circuit and it seemed to cure the problem. It ran fine for a few weeks and today I flashed the bios with the modified no 2010 version and took windows updates and things have gone wacky. Sometimes it starts up and I get the message that "Resource conflict pci network controller conflict slot 1 bus 04 device 02 function (0), sometimes the radio does not come on and sometimes the screen freezes up and then I see the wireless is off. It has a Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet board inside in the wifi card slot. I was thinking of swapping out the Broadcom card first, any other ideas guys? or maybe update the driver on that card.

Re: Resource conflict PCI network controller
Let's try this again:
Broadcom Gigabit is the wired LAN, not the wireless card.
What is the actual wireless card we're dealing with here?

What do I know? Duh, the other network adapter is a Intel (R) pro wireless 2200BG Network Connection.

Try removing the Intel card and see whether the conflict warning goes away.

I'd say try a different wireless card...and hope that the warning doesn't come back.

I don't have another one handy so I reseated it a few times, lets see what happens next, it booted, no conflict and it went onlineajkula66 wrote:I'd say try a different wireless card...and hope that the warning doesn't come back.
thanks burns
edit: Well its been running now for 3 hours without a hitch, when I removed it it came out very easy, got it to snap in after a few tries. Someone left all the screws out of the Broadcom card, go figure

Re: Resource conflict PCI network controller
Update: After several days of no problems I've had it drop out once or twice and managed to get it to work by just pressing on the card and then it goes on for hours. Do you "guys" think it's the card or the slot? Is there a way to tighten up the card in the slot, ie piece of paper/cardboard etc? Thinking about trying another card in the slot and seeing what happens, not much to loose.

Use an eraser and rub the contacts on both sides of that wifi card, until they are shiny.
Don't rub TOO hard, though.
Blow the debris away, then reinsert the card, making sure it's all the way in.
Don't use any paper/carton.

Re: Resource conflict PCI network controller
Update: as I'm always working on a few Thinkpads at any one time.
I removed the wifi card and cleaned the contacts and the situation sort of evolved to the following, most times the machine starts normally and operates normally for hours and then I get a lockup or frozen cursor and the wifi indicator light goes off. When I restart I get the conflict message and after several restarts it starts, sometimes without wifi sometimes with wifi. I replaced the wifi card with another known good card and it did not improve anything. I removed the wifi card from under the touch pad and plugged a wireless adapter card in the pci slot and fired it all up and everything worked fine. It's been running on the removable card now for a week or so without any problems. So what do you think, it's a motherboard problem, is there anything else it could be? Thanks in advance
