What do you use to clean the screen?
What do you use to clean the screen?
Hi Guys/Girls,
I just got a t410i and one of my two kittens (Arial) likes to sniff the lcd panel, so her nose touches the panel and leaves wet marks, that dry into streaks where her nose moved on the panel. Now I have wipes for lcd panels which is basically alcohol then dried with a microfiber cloth. This process leaves smudges from the microfiber.
What do I use to clean the panel period? Making it like the first day it was opened.
John

Staples brand wipes work well for me. YMMV.

Re: What do you use to clean the screen?
I use a home made concoction in a spray bottle that is mostly water (about 12oz), with about 1oz of 99% pure isopropyl and a drop of dish washing detergent. Using a clean lint free cloth to wipe with, and then another portion of the same cloth to dry. Works very well.

Re: What do you use to clean the screen?
Use the spray and cloth used to clean eye glasses.
Be sure to unplug the laptop and remove the battery.
Do NOT spray directly onto the screen. Lightly spray the cloth.

Re: What do you use to clean the screen?
You should never use Windex on your LCD, it contains ammonia, which can, over time, damage your display's panel.

Re: What do you use to clean the screen?
I use Glass Plus and a soft terry cloth towel. Just spray the towel and wipe. Since Glass Plus doesn't contain ammonia it won't harm your screen.

Re: What do you use to clean the screen?
Hi guys/girls,
Thank you for gettiing back to me on this subject everyone. I like all of your ideas! Now to pick one and try it out. I do remember that I heard that one is not to use Windex but never knew why but now we do (Thanks Neil).
To Neil: Do you know why you add a drop of dish washing detergent? Also, what detergent do you use? I have Dawn, which I guess should be ok. Also, can you tell me where you got your 12 oz. spray bottle? One more thing if I may, where can you get 99% pure isopropyl? I thought I have seen like 78% isopropyl in the drug stores. Should one use distilled water vs. tap water?
To ajkula66: The Staple wipes are they alcohol based? Also, do you just allow the panel to air dry or do you use a cloth after the wipes? If so, what type of cloth do you use?
To ParatoOptimal: Can you tell me why remove the battery? I can understand the removal of the power supply. Is removing the battery just along the same lines as removing the power suppy, to make sure there is zero power to the thinkpad?
Thanks again everyone,
John

Re: What do you use to clean the screen?
Staples wipes (white/green container, UK made) are non-alcohol based.
I just let the screen dry.

Re: What do you use to clean the screen?
Indeed I do know why I add detergent...it makes the water "wetter" and helps to break down gunk (like sticky fingers or pet noses) that gets on the screen. Dawn will be fine.
My bottle is just a retired all purpose cleaner bottle from the kitchen.
Not sure where you would get 99% isopropyl...I get it in 55gal drums for my printing shop. Just make absolutely sure what you use does not have any oil in it. Just be sure you don't use rubbing alcohol as it does contain oil. You can mix the alcohol up to 50% with water, I just find that I don't need that much. It's only there to help the moisture evaporate faster.
Distilled water is better than tap, but I use tap without any harmful affect that I can tell.

Re: What do you use to clean the screen?
Thanks ajkula66 for responding back to my quickly. Do you have a link for them? I searched the Staples site and can't find them.
Also, Neil, thank you for resonding quickly. I have found 99% isopropyl on Amazon (link below):
http://www.amazon.com/Swan-Alcohol-99%2 ... 443&sr=8-1
It's interesting that the dishwashing soap makes the water "wetter" and breaks down the pet nose trails

For those interested in alcohol...
It doesn't matter if you buy 70% or 99%...you are watering it down heavily anyways. Just get whatever is available.
