Turbo Memory 4gb as ram disc?

#1 Post by mrj47 » Sun Apr 29, 2012 6:59 am

Thinking about purchasing a 4gb intel turbo memory module on ebay and use it as a ramdisc, any thoughts on that?

Seems like a good way to offload some temporary folders from my 64gb SSD I just purchased.

I thought about the same but got discouraged after reading bad reviews about the Turbo Memory and how useless it is for the price it costs.

I opted to upgrade my Thinkpads to 8GB. Linux automatically creates a 1.5GB cache for tempfs, and I use that as a ram disk.

TurboMEM seems to be flaky.
From the 3 machines that I had with it, 2 were faulty and prevented the machine from booting properly.
Removing the card solved it.
Waste of money IMHO. YMMV.
