T420 - toggle between 1600x900 and 1366x768?
T420 - toggle between 1600x900 and 1366x768?
Hi All,
I was interested in getting the T420 but wondered about the screen resolution. I am more comfortable working and writing with a lower resolution like 1366 x 768 in order to reduce eyestrain but I know I would enjoy watching video and surfing the net in higher resolution such as 1600 x 900. So my question is how realistic is it to move between a native resolution of 1600 x 900 and a lower res like 1366? I know the screen looks best in native resolution while lesser resolutions in my experience usually look pretty bad and unusable. I'd appreciate it if anyone can address this question on the usability of lesser resolutions on a native resolution of 1600.
Thanks.

I don't think it would be any different. Whatever you observed when running non-native resolutions will stay true. How much it bothers you only you can know.
With that said - I hardly think 1600x900 can have an advantage over 1366x768 for movies. Typically, either the movie is 1366x768 or less, or it is 1920x1080, in which case 1600x900 is also not enough.
If 1366x768 is truly more comfortable for you in your work, and if you have been unhappy running non-native res in the past, I'd just get a screen with 1366x768...

Thanks for weighing in.
I don't have a whole lot of experience with non-native resolutions. One can see how bad 800x600 looks, for example, but it's hard to know if it just the low pixel count or the non-native issue. I know there is generally a bad rap against them but didn't know if this would still be case with the higher pixel density as in non-native 1366x768.

You would probably be better off leaving the display setting at the native resolution, and adjusting the DPI setting to your taste.
Collection = T500 - R400 - X300 - X200 - T61 (14" WXGA+) - T61 (14.1" SXGA+) - T60 (15" SXGA+) - X40 - T43p - T43 - T42p - A30P - 600E

That's a good idea. I will look into that.
Thanks!
