d620 LCD in T61 (widescreen)
Does anyone know off-hand if the panel from a Dell Latitude d620 will work in a T61 without modification? Thanks!

Re: d620 LCD in T61 (widescreen)
If the LCD's model is different from what's in a Thinkpad, it will not work.
Even a different suffix is enough to make it not work.
Example:
LTN141P4-L02 14.1" SXGA+ is in a Thinkpad T4x/R5x series.
LTN141P4-L01 14.1" SXGA+ is in a Dell D500/D600/D610 and does NOT work in the above Thinkpad.
If it's missing the required EDID chip for the T61, it won't work either.
Chances are that you blow a fuse, if not more, if you mess around with this.

That's frustrating. Do you think reflashing the EDID chip on the new panel would be a path worth pursuing, or is it one of those things that just won't work?

Try the Thinkpad LCD in the Dell instead.
If anything goes wrong, at least it's only a Dell that bit the dust!

Re: d620 LCD in T61 (widescreen)
The D620 is actually significantly different from the 600/610's etc. It's the first in the D6X0 series to use a widescreen LCD. Do a little digging on the model LCD you've got in your Dell, you might find it just has an EDID chip...

It's the pinout that is the most important thing here.Thirtybird wrote:The D620 is actually significantly different from the 600/610's etc. It's the first in the D6X0 series to use a widescreen LCD. Wrong setup and there goes the board...
With that said, the original T61 screens are dirt cheap nowadays and I'd simply get a proper used one...

LOL, thanks guys. I'll probably try it when I get some time to work on it. When you're broke, you're broke
