Changing power setting while not working as administrator?

Hi,

I have a T42 with the standart software coming from IBM.

For security reasons I do not want to work as administrator constantly, so I created a user account. There I have the following problems:

- I can not change the powerscheme ( which is highly inconvinient while doing a presentation).
- I have problems connecting to the internet via modem or wlan

is there an easy workaround?
