I have frankenpad with T61 motherboard FRU 42W7648.

I've bought and successfully installed MR15 (cheaper that ebay, don't forget Half to Full miniCard Bracket) with 2x 32GB SanDisk microSDHC class 10 from Amazon sale (waiting for 2x 64GB).

Speeds are similar to mentioned here but sometimes after resume from sleep I see message "This device can perform faster..." and card reader works in USB 1.1 mode :( Restart solves the problem, but I can't restart so often :)

I've found similar topic at Lenovo support site: ThinkPad Mini Dock Series 3 and ThinkPad Mini Dock Plus Series 3 USB but it doesn't help.

It seems to me that device incorrectly initializes after resume. Does anybody know, is there a program that can re-initialize usb device without restart? Or I am at wrong way?

I've found that card reader is connected to
Intel(R) ICH8 Family USB Universal Host Controller - 2831
when in USB 1.1 mode. I restart the notebook. Now i see that card reader is connected to
Intel(R) ICH8 Family USB2 Enhanced Host Controller - 2836
and works in USB 2.0 mode. I've surprised - connection scheme can change :) Don't have enough knowledge to explain it.

Thanks farmall, I will look into the SATA adapters. It will have to be one for SDHC cards, as I occasionally use those in my laptops as well. In fact, easy physical access to the media with the boot OS is one of the main reasons I am playing around with those cards.

I'm planning to buy the MR15 card reader and install it on my T61 (using 2 X 64GB microSD card )

quite cheap is instal a CF card in PCMCIA ... the adapter cost like 4$ and CF high capibilty and speed can be find in accepable price ;]

UPDATE

little update ... my way is not so good as i discover that PCI-1510 cardbus controler used in T60 doesn support DMA mode .... during use this CF card system slows down :(
