Internal SSD disk adapter for X220i

#1 Post by erreipl » Mon Jun 04, 2012 3:20 pm

Hi all,

I have à X220i and just got a 256Gb SSD disk from a T410 laptop. The goal is to replace the current internal SATA disk with this SSD. But... The disk adapter (réf. 74W8888) does not fit with the X220i and can't be inserted.
Until now I have found no adapter reference that could fit with the X220i.
Did anybody come across this issue?

Thanks

Your problem is that the SSD you're trying to fit in is probably 9.5mm thick. However the X220 will only accept 7mm drives, hence your issues with the brackets.

Hi,

Ok. Do you know any adapter part number or model that could fit with 7mm height?
I crawled many websites unsuccessfully so far.

Thanks a lot.

The Samsung 830 series and the Crucial m300 are available in 7mm versions.
The new Intel series are 9.5mm thick but removing their spacer can be removed (voids the warranty though).
Check on this forum or on Notebook Review for feedbacks.

I just put a Samsung 830 series in a Thinkpad X220T for a friend today and it worked great. He's very pleased with the performance and it was a snap to install.

You are attempting to use a 1.8" drive with the 42W7888 storage converter in a 7mm space. What you are looking for I don't believe exists at the moment. Hopefully sometime in the future there will be solution to use 1.8" form factor HDD's and SSD's in a 7mm space.
