W7 "not genuine" message
W7 "not genuine" message
Hello all,
I purchased a couple of W7 copies from Thinkpad Recovery Software based on reading positive comments on the forum. One copy installed and activated fine, but then began giving messages that it was not genuine. The other copy has not given me this message and seems fine.
I have emailed the company at least 6 times with no response. Does anyone have any experience with this company or suggest what might be happening?
Thanks,
Bruce

I would advise calling Microsoft and inquiring.

Care to share how? Might help someone else when searching these forums.
Re: W7 "not genuine" message
I'd love to know what he did too. On a T41 here W7 throws a periodic 'not genuine' message. It's a legal copy, one of three from a 'family pack'. To remove the message I click on 'My Computer', Properities. It's annoying to see the message, annoying to have to go through the routine to 'fix' it, but it works!
Would love to know how to bring it to a permanent end.

Re: W7 "not genuine" message
I get the same routine with a legit copy, I haven't timed it, but suspect it is near the 60 day trial period some times given by M$.
Re: W7 "not genuine" message
Followup to my previous post:
Called MS, virtually a waste of time. I did find a procedure which seems to have ended the problem, though it's only been a day.
1) go to http://support.microsoft.com/pag
2) had to validate and was prompted to download a file named WindowsActivationUpdate.exe
3) ran the file
4) went back to MS site, validate, validation showed good
5) rebooted, have not seen the error since
NOTE: only had the OS up for a day but generally the error would popup multiple times a day. FOLLOW-UP: it's been weeks since posting this message ... no more 'not genuine' messages
