T60p Screen going black, while machine is running
Hello,
my T60P (T7600/4gb/ati256mb/7k500-250gb/windows 7&64, extended display, two screens) does work well...
... up to now:
in the last weeks I noticed the lcd (main screen) going black, while the machine was running. It obviously worked but did not show what it did. I had to stop the machine the hard way (on/off button).
The machine starts (no docking) but screen stays black and blank, not even a boot screen.
Is that a hint, that the machine is runnig to hot for the gpu (2nd display is on) or what else has happened?
Is that a hint, that the converter is dead?
Updates from MS went wrong?
Any hints, advice is welcome

Re: T60p Screen going black, while machine is running
It's possible your backlight is failing, but if you have two displays, why did you have to power it off blind if the other display kept working? Seems some part of this picture is missing. If the computer stopped responding and you had to force a shutdown, then it could be software, but if one screen goes black and the other doesn't, I'd suspect it's the screen.
I'd try booting from a linux livecd, see if the screen works with a different operating system, that will tell you if it's hardware or software.
Good luck

Re: T60p Screen going black, while machine is running
Well,
I'm confused, really:
(0) It started occassionally, having left the machine on but unused, I found its main screen (LCD) black, machine obviously working (hd etc), but screen did not return. I was able to use a hard reset to have it return to work.
Now that has stopped working...
(1) I know screens going Yellow or dim, as they grow old, but the LCd is just black, it could be backlight, true.
(2) I up to now have not experienced screens showing a second (or two) the picture (part of it) of the Lenovo Boot-screen before going black. F1 etc does not work (just a beep follows - stuck/mistaken key) If it is the backlight, shouldn't Fn-Keys work all the same?
(3) Fn keys should allow to switch main display, but Fn keys do not functionproperly, it seems.
(2) I can feel, that the machine ist hot (place of CPU & Co), but when ever I used aida/everest, it was hot, but within limits (? cpu: about 7X celsius) ...
IFurther advice, other hints ? All welcome thanks in advance

Re: T60p Screen going black, while machine is running
My suspicion is that it's the inverter. It does the opposite of a rectifier and converts AC current to high voltage DC current to drive the backlighting. I've had dozens of laptops and when the screen starts to fade in and out it's almost always been the inverter. It's so common that when I buy a laptop I usually buy an inverter and extra power brick. The following is a linkhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Yi6GNFcP3w to one of many YouTube and web resources to trouble shoot it. Usually, they are fairly cheap and easy to replace.

A bright flashlight will tell you if it's the backlight. You'll be able to see the proper image on the screen - very faint - with a flashlight if it's just the backlight that's gone.

Hello All of You,
First and most important: Thanks for Advice and help!!
The culprit was ... the backlight it's gone.
I had an equal (boehydis, 1pixel dead) and the exchange went rather easy.
Again thanks for advice and help
