NEW : ThinkVantage Active Protection System ((WEIRD))

#1 Post by ausmike » Fri Jun 15, 2012 11:24 am

So i had one of those RARE DAYS off work ............ and thought to update some of my 'stored thinkpads"

One of those RARE THINKPADS (with factory box and all) thought to plug in and do "UPDATES"...to the W701dsCTO.... and came across this :

Code: Select all

1: Note for ThinkPad W700 and W700ds - RAID mode configuration
To enable ThinkVantage Active Protection System in RAID configuration, the
    following software is required:
    - BIOS
        Version 1.51 or higher
    - Intel Matrix Storage Manager Driver
        Version 8.6.0.1007 or higher
Update BIOS and Intel Matrix Storage Manager Driver prior to install
ThinkVantage Active Protection System if necessary.
For more detail for each software identification and updating, refer to
release notes of BIOS and Intel Matrix Storage Manager Driver.

1.76>
- (New) Added support for Zhaoyang K29,K49.
- (New) Added support for ThinkPad Edge E430,E530.
- (New) Added support for Lenovo V480,V580.

so who is this Zhaoyang ? WTH is Lenovo adding names of 'coders-name/users-id' [Zhaoyang ]??
last time I chatted with mr Zhao in Shen'ing China ( developer team lead) he was very upset with Lenovo's 'developement path' ...............blah blah ...

So that's why this update came about - because of someone personal requests? not anything functional
HOW;s RAID issues being fixed in W Series /models?

If anyone has updated their DS's ( and have RAID setups) can they pls let me know if there is anything new on this update of "airbag" apps

Thanks

Lenovo's 昭阳 (Zhao Yang) line are business laptops aimed at large enterprises. It's not a person's name.

Looks like K29 and K49 are upcoming Ivy Bridge models. They are not listed on the website yet.

No chiclet keyboards??? What did they do it to the W530???

#3 Post by kenyee » Mon Jun 18, 2012 2:30 pm

ok...this makes no sense...their new business lineup doesn't have chiclet keyboards, yet they insisted on putting a chiclet keyboard on the W530.
Sheer stupidity? Or do they consider the W530 a consumer level thinkpad? :-P

Well, take from it what you will, but the Zhaoyang line does not have any consumer-level retailers like ThinkPads do. You can only buy them as a company.

...........You can only buy them as a company.
WE (the company I work for) buys near 200 of these in our CHINA office -
trust me they get worst reviews than most 'sydo=thinkpads eg EDGE" .... and its not JUST KEYBOARDS

SO no ; Point being = WHY LENOVO would code to a "brand name = 'zhaoyang" rather than MODELS - like in past eg T3xx W5xx... etc. ..... and more so WHY MAKE 'busienss machines' have more/less features for the SAME APPs....???

Sorry for us Lenovo is a lost cause - and WE even dropped out of the Beta testing site ... and dare I say it ( me a hard hard thinkpad fan)..... we wont even be ordering any soon - even for 'employee ordering' systems

no Biggie
Cheers

I vote "sheer stupidity"

So ausmike: what do you guys use now instead of the W530?
I searched for a while and couldn't find anything I liked except maybe HP's Elitebook which some people hate too. So my W530 is arriving Thursday...hope it's not a lemon :)

Hiya ken...
Well as my sign. below says - we just not SOLE THINKPAD company ANYMORE (which personally for me was a BIG SAD DAY) as I love(d) TP since my first one - days of TRANSNOTE!

Most users have hated Lenovo's degragation of 'thinkpad specs' where they feel its no longer 'hip' to have the best Linux + high end Coding/Databse /graphics work that we generally do......

Sorry not 'allowed' to give details of specs/configs - details of work setups ( already got into pooh) ... seems weird but hey I have to follow the rules of this forum also!

But most of WSeries we have are MAXED out on specs and RAIDED ( thus no SSDS - and I get to keep thos 'factory ssds' when we fit CUSTOM LOADS of our corp-packs on them)

We also use a lot of Andriod phones & tablets (Custom ROMs) ALL Samsung's - am still hanging on to my ASUS windows tablet - its pure joy to use ! Thank Gawd we rid of Crack berry ,,.... hate hate hate those phones !

Dude - As'some Morning - looking out my window @hotel in Cambridge this morning Ahh great to be alive !

this is slightly off topic, but i find it interesting the V480 and V580 have the active protection system. maybe it'll move to all of lenovo's laptops eventually?
