Microsoft Surface (2012)
Microsoft Surface (2012)
Thoughts...?
Mine is that, does it has a stylus (yes for the Win8 model) and if it's going to spell death for the convertibles (like the X230T).
Cheers.

Re: Microsoft Surface (2012)
It won' be 600DPI. The Surface Pro tablet will run the full version of Windows 8 and will have a 10.6" 1920x1080 screen, corresponding to 207.8 DPI. This is excellent news because it seems that Microsoft has either figured out or will soon figure out how to scale text and images on high-res screens. The cover keyboard is also an exciting innovation. I'm sure it won't work as well as a regular laptop keyboard, but nonetheless it should be better than virtual keyboards. The weight of the Surface Pro is disappointing though, 2.00 lbs. The Surface Windows RT version is 1.5 lbs, but it doesn't run x86 apps and I do need to run such apps. For the full specs of these upcoming tablets, see: http://reviews.cnet.com/tablets/microso ... uselMain.0ausmike wrote:my curious thing of note was = wow 600DPI on 10 inch !
Yes it has a stylus. And I hope it will make convertible laptops obsolete because I HATE those ugly, heavy, bulky things.loyukfai wrote:Mine is that, does it has a stylus (yes for the Win8 model) and if it's going to spell death for the convertibles (like the X230T).

I agree, the keyboard could be big, bridging the divide between tablets and ultraportables. It's hard to say how it work in the real world and execution will count for a lot.

but no trackpoint....
Re: Microsoft Surface (2012)
It had, in the Metro land. For the traditional desktop, Win8 retains the same scaling functionality as Win7 thus far. And I consider it unlikely that MS would implement a significantly different scaling functionality in RTM nor a subsequent SP. Also unlikely is that Microsoft would release Win9 in less than 2-year time after releasing Win8, which means even if we're to see an improved scaling functionality for the traditional desktop in Windows, it'd be at least in 2014.pianowizard wrote:...it seems that Microsoft has either figured out or will soon figure out how to scale text and images on high-res screens.
This contains a lot of speculation so take it with a grain of salt.
Cheers.

What improvement do you want ? Scaled image or "anti-aliased" font will always look awful and blurry on "low" resolution, as it does on the Apple according the full-res screenshots. You would need at least 10 or more times higher resolution than the Apple one to do some real magic there.loyukfai wrote:And I consider it unlikely that MS would implement a significantly different scaling functionality in RTM nor a subsequent SP.

Um, please don't assume that everyone has eyes as picky as yours.Puppy wrote:What improvement do you want ?
