I've started experiencing a partial Blink of Death (BOD) with my T21 lately. I read all the fixes, but started with
the most gentle - remove all power for several hours. This results in my being able to apply power; I get the initial
splash screen then - nothing. Power remains on (apparently; the fan is running) but I see nothing else. Press the power button again, and the thing powers down. Subsequent attempts to power up return to the BOD until I remove
power for an extended time.
Any ideas? Do I need to pursue the bridge resistor on the chip route or the mobo replacement route or what? Any and all suggestions appreciated! As old as this machine is, I still like it and hate the thoughts of replacing it.
Partial BOD?
Re: Partial BOD?
I am not an experienced trouble-shooter. Hopefully, others will reply behind me.
What leads you to believe that it is a hardware issue? Couldn't it be a software problem with an old installation of Windows?
I re-install Windows every 18 months, simply because my T30 runs so much faster with a fresh clean install.
Do you have a dos-bootable CD with a popular piece of software? If everything appears fine under a dos-bootable CD, then I would consider re-installing Windows.

Re: Partial BOD?
I think it's a HW problem as the system was fully functional until a day or so ago. I shut it down, and found these
symptoms upon rebooting. Based on suggestions found here, I removed the mini-PCI card last evening; that actually allowed the machine to get to the Thinkpad spalsh screen and from there to the Windows boot selection, but then screen went black with only the fan working. Powered it off and back on again and got the BOD.
Feels like perhaps it's on the edge of complete failure. Guess I'll look at either mobo replacement or the resistor fix..
Thanks!
