#1 Post by Allen Wu » Thu Apr 21, 2005 10:38 pm

Product: ThinkPad T41 2373-7KA

Operating system: Windows XP

Original description: P M 1.6GHz, 256MB RAM, 40GB 5400rpm HDD, 14.1 XGA(1024x768) TFT LCD, 32MB ATI Radeon 7500, 16x10x24x/8x CD-RW/DVD, Intel 802.11b wireless(MPCI), Modem(CDC), 1Gb Ethernet(LOM), UltraNav, Secure Chip(TCPA), 6 cell Li-Ion battery, WinXP Pro

I have get a system disk dirver C backup to Driver D use ghost when I just install windows XP and IBM drivers. but I can not get restore success. I can not select the drvier C in ghost when I try to restore the buckup. The driver C is gray in the destination list. why? The Dirver C and D file system type are NTFS.

I am sorry, I can't quite make out what your question really is, but...
Here is MAYBE what you are asking:

You can't backup an entire physical disc with Ghost, and then restore to a partition.

You have one physical hard drive with two partitions. If you backup the drive with Ghost you can restore the entire disc to the same size or larger physical hard drive.

But...you can't backup your entire hard drive, and then just restore the C: partition.

Is that what you are asking?

Sorry, my english is just so so.
I mean that i just backup C partition to system.gho file, but i can't restore system.gho file to C partition. Because i can't select C partition in destination list of ghost program interface. it's gray, can't be selected.

No problem...I don't read or write any Chinese at all, so you are doing far better than I am!!

As for the problem, if you are sure that you backed up just the C partition, and not the entire physical drive, I don't know why the C partition would be greyed out.

However, I just did a Yahoo search on the words "ghost C partition greyed out" and I am getting a lot of hits. I haven't had time to read through them all yet, why don't you do the same search, see if you find a matching hit, and let me know if you find a solution?

Also, go to:
http://www.symantec.com/techsupp/consumer.html
and put in Norton Ghost and search Symantec's knowledgebase.
