#1 Post by slam5 » Mon Jul 02, 2012 4:53 pm

Hi, can anybody give me a definitely answer to whether a x201 will take 9mm drive? If you can point me to Lenovo documentation that will prove this;I will be foreverly grateful to you. tx

Yes, it does. All X200 and X201 can use 9.5mm drives. It's the newer X220 and X230 that are limited to 7mm drives.

I just installed a Samsung 256GB 830 SSD in my X201.

The Samsung drive is 7mm in height. I had to use the included plastic piece to prop up the height to 9.5mm so the SSD will fit correctly into the X201 drive bay.

Please note, the original Samsung 128GB SSD that came with the X201 is a 1.8inch drive. The Samsung 256SD 830 SSD is a 2.5inch drive. You need to purchase a Thinkpad 2.5inch laptop hard drive caddy off ebay in order to mount the 2.5inch SSD into the X201.

Unless, of course, your X201 came with a HDD in which case you will already have the 2.5" caddy.

Yes but the magnetic drives were not; they were normal 2.5" x 9.5mm drives. So if you got it with a non-SSD you've already got the caddy.
