Thinklight replacement for X60?

#1 Post by blandthrax » Wed Jul 04, 2012 1:35 pm

Good day everyone,

I own a Lenovo Thinkpad X60 1707-CTO and I just returned from a trip to discover the Thinklight has stopped working. I have spent the better part of the past hour scouring three hardware manuals from Lenovo's website as well as Googling for a solution and/or part number to no avail.

My first question, is the Thinklight on this model easily replaceable, meaning, can I take apart the bezel and swap it for a new one?

and, if so, what is the part number?

I haven't been able to isolate the Thinklight as a standalone part though I assume it can be found and purchased somewhere.

Any assistance is warmly appreciated.

Sincerely,
Matt

Welcome to the forum!
The light is part of the LCD cable, of which there are 4 flavors, i.e., for "normal" (designated "SPWG" in manual) vs. "UltraLight" screens, each with or without Bluetooth connector. Most likely you have the "normal" screen, cable shown below:

Disassembling the LCD casing and changing the cable will not be "fun" -- especially is you have not done it before. You may consider replacing the entire "top" of the machine, for example:

Note: All X6x[s] -- i.e., X60, X60s, X61, X61s -- "tops" are interchangeable, and will mount on any X6x[s] "bottom".

The Hardware Maintenance Manual (HMM) has disassembly instructions and part numbers:
