Pressure spot on X220 IPS?

#1 Post by chubbyfatazn » Thu Jul 12, 2012 12:13 am

It was either here or on another forum that George (ajkula666 or something near there) said something about IPS panels being more easy to develop pressure spots. I assume that's what happened in my case.

Near the bottom right of the screen, there's a section where the pixels are always lighter than the surrounding pixels. Even on a white background. It's most noticeable if the background is light; if it's a dark blue or black then it's barely noticeable. Is this something Lenovo would fix? The laptop does go into a backpack regularly, but it sits inside a neoprene sleeve in the laptop compartment of the backpack.

I can forgive the incessant fan noise and the fact that the laptop doesn't sit flat, but my eyes just gravitate to this white spot and it bothers me.

I don't know if it happens more or less on IPS screens. It certainly happened on 3 different IPS screens on my machines (one T42, two T60), but I've also seen it on many non-IPS screens.

Yes, Lenovo will generally exchange the screen due to that. There has been at least one case documented here when they denied it, but eventually, I believe after talking to a different service rep, agreed to fix it under warranty.

I've exchanged 4 screens for this defect, and not once anyone tried to deny me. But it may vary from country to country.
