T61 Brightness is going haywire!

#1 Post by geekor » Thu Jul 12, 2012 5:32 pm

T61, has has no problem for last 2 years.

Lately though it's dropping the brightness on the screen down to 0, then will go back up, the drop down. It only does this on Battery Power, not while plugged in.

Battery Stretch is off, so I updated the Power Manager as well as the PM driver. Still no luck?

any ideas?

That was the first thing I checked. I even changed it to be max for both battery and AC. That didn't fix it, so I updated the power management drivers and software. Still no fix.

It doesn't drop down lower, it will go to 0 then back up to 15, then back to 0, all in a few minutes. Like a really slow flicker. The OSD even comes up each time.

did you check the bios settings?
could also be the power is not fully plugged in; maybe a loose contact. check all connections from power outlet to pc.

It only happen on battery, not when plugged in.

So loose connection to the battery? it would turn off then no?

I uninstalled the Power Managment Driver as well as the Thinkvantage Power Software.

So far 15 minutes and no going back and forth on brightness

So I'm assuming it has something to do with those. Maybe I can find older versions to install as the newest didn't do anything to help.
