Windows update not working after re-install

#1 Post by Think43p » Sun Jul 15, 2012 4:29 pm

Hi All,

System is T43p-2668-GEU

I re-installed the OS(XO Pro) using previously created recovery discs and the process went smoothly till the end, however I'm facing 2 issues.

1. By default the system was at SP2 and for some reason its not doing the automatic updates to SP3 despite setting up auto-update mode. I also tried forcefully to do the updates but when the IE page opens, its gives an error on the page and does not continue further.

2. Wireless is not connecting however the wired method works.

Anyone come across these issues?

Thanks in advance.

1) Support for XP sp2 ended some time ago, so you will have to download sp3 and install manually before Windows update will work.

2) Do you have wireless drivers installed? Check device manager to see if there are any driver errors. Or, is it a matter of your access point shows up in the list of available networks, but just won't connect?

Hi All,

Good news. I was able to solve the issue. It had to do with this missing DLL file. Wups2.dll

Found the solution after searching for:
"windows update does not work after reinstall" in google and the 2nd link:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943144

and the option:

Let me fix it myself
Click here to view or hide how to register the Wups2.dll file

System did many updates and restarts and finally after the SP3 update and the final restart the wireless connected like nothing was ever wrong.

Hope this helps others out there with the same problem.

Cheers!!!
