Removing old IBM driver and app files

#1 Post by pipspeak » Fri Apr 22, 2005 5:48 pm

Anyone know an easy way to figure out which, if any, of the files the IBM Tools folder can safely be deleted?

I'm in need of more space on the hard drive and noticed that the folder take up almost a gig. Since I've updated all the drivers and IBM apps in the last year I'm sure there must be a bunch of old driver files no longer needed. But looking through them there's no ovious way to tell the old from the new since they all have different names so I don't want to delete based on file date only.

Any info appreciated.

I deleted the stuff in the IBM Tools folder (but left the actual directory there to store the updated drivers and stuff I downloaded). All it contains is install packages, and all the files necessary for the programs to work are installed in the Windows and Program Files directories. The install packages are also on the hidden restore partition.

If you download the latest drivers and tools, the old install packages are basically obsolete, so there's not much reason to keep the old stuff around.

Thanks, I'll give it a go. Though I might archive the files on my external HD cuz I'm paranoid ;)
