w700 lcd problem

#1 Post by lehmann » Mon Jul 23, 2012 2:44 am

w700 lcd is randomly black off, very dim image but working fine with external monitor. I have changed a new inverter and tested that the dual backlights are fine, and lcd ribbon has been reseated. But the problem is unsolved. Is it possible the lcd ribbon linking to inverter is broken? how can I check it? thanks.

Possible, but unlikely. Usually, the symptoms mean a bad bulb (need new screen) or a blown fuse on the motherboard. You would need parts to swap or you can test the fuse with a meter, after complete disassembly

Have you found any solution yet? I have the same problem with a W700DS, the main 17" screen stays dim at all times but oddly the secondary 10" screen will still work just fine when I pop it out, external works fine also. I have replaced the LCD(both backlights have been tested to work in another laptop)with a new one and have tried 2 "new" inverters from an Ebay seller with a third one on the way but still no change. The LCD cable has been reseated and doesn't look like it has any bends or cracks in it. The original screen had one of the backlights fail in a puff of smoke due to a short of some kind right where the inverter cable's go into the frame of the LCD.

Richk, do you know where this 'fuse' might be that you mentioned?
