I'd be scared of transferring *any* data over a Google-owned/based network...

If I ever decide that I really need a Gigabit pipe I'll likely have enough $$$ to have Verizon drop one at my doorstep...

I wouldn't be. All my outbound traffic goes through one of my VPN servers anyways, so my ISP never sees anything but a single encrypted VPN session over UDP.

So yeah, bring on the fiber!

Actually, it would be wasted for me. I have 30/5 now and I almost never saturate the downstream. Upstream is a different story, but I'll be getting 10 Mbit up soon and that's just fine for what I do. For me, latency matters a lot more than throughput, and while fiber is fast I have pretty good routing as it stands (even better when I switch to business service later next month.)

Fair enough.

With that said, how many other potential users of Google's network share this approach?

Sadly, probably very few.

You have to trust *somebody* along the route, and I suppose you could do a lot worse than Google...

Still, I tend to trust my datacenter more than my ISP. :P

Hmmm...(scratches head)...couldn't find KGB, UDBA or NSA on the list of approved ISPs...so I might just have to disagree with you on that one, old boy...
