Kubuntu 12.04 in a X220, experiences and problems

#1 Post by AJN » Thu Aug 09, 2012 4:08 am

I'm not an advanced user, but decided to try this out. For thinkpad features and good battery life I installed

http://linrunner.de/en/tlp/docs/tlp-lin ... ement.html and tp_smapi 0.41.

Battery life seems to be good, with i7 and 6-cell battery it hangs around 8-9 hours. Battery charging stop threshold can be set, but no starting threshold. Bluetooth led is on all the time for some reason, and some key shortcuts (Fn+F2/F6/F8) won't do nothing, same goes with the mic mute button. Was someone able to fix these? how? :)

Hey AJN I have an x220 i5 and I am currently running LMDE on it. I was wondering...how did you get your battery to last you so long. On my linux partition it only lasts about 4 hours on my 6-cell. If you could post instructions on how you went about doing so let me know.

Try to install tlp, tp_smapi 0.41 and and app called powertop. It can advice what's eating energy in your system.

Took a screenshot, many things were showing "bad" at first

I also disabled some unused features from bios (ethernet etc.). I'm using Samsung 830 series SSD, which should save something too.

Hopefully these tweaks give you more hours

edit. I found where to set those key shortcuts. Some work and can be set, but with Fn+F8 it says "The key you just pressed is not supported by Qt". Funny..
