Fresh build of XP has problem

#1 Post by burns334 » Sat Aug 11, 2012 9:11 am

I am repairing a T43 and the first thing I did was to build a hard drive for it. I put the hard drive in one of my T43s and started the rebuild with the factory restore disks (I have used these disks many times with no problems). The build seemed fairly normal and the machine went online without a hitch. The build is at SP2 and I wanted to get the security updates and bring it to SP3 but when I open IE it bombs about 2/3 thru the page load, when I try to do a windows update out of the start menu it gets to the express install button but then say it can't get to the updates after I click the button. I went thru the entire install a second time with the same results. I just don't have any ideas on how to proceed, any help would be appreciated.

Wireless Neil, just like the previous builds. Update, I installed windows update agent and that seemed to fix the problem

This T43 could well have a flakey wireless adapter, or if it's a different model than the one used to "build" the HDD, you could have a driver issue. Which adapter is it, btw?
