Google nexus 7
Picked up this 7 inch tablet last week and really like it. Anyone else try one? Encounter any issues with yours?

Re: Google nexus 7
So maybe to spark some discussion...
I had originally gotten the 8gb version. I noticed last night a flickering on the tablet in low light situations. It happened 4 times in about an hour driving in the car (I was the passenger) and reading a Kindle book. So thinking it might be an early sign of hardware problem, and disappointed the 8gb model only had 6gb free upon purchase, I exchanged at my local Staples for a 16gb model. This one doesn't appear to have the same issue with the backlight turned down.
Other than that, the unit is just right to me - easy to manage with one hand, easy to grip with the rubberized back (although I did order a very nice case for $9.99 (on sale) on amazon that fits it nicely. The tablet is spunky with the quad core processor and 12 graphics execution units. Had about 13.25 gb free on the 16gb model out of the box.
The wireless works great around the house. The tablet is running Android 4.1 jellybean with project butter to speed up UI actions. It's a very nice user experience. ASUS made the tablet, if feels well built and solid. IPS display is very bright and viewing angles are impressive.
Overall, it's the right size device for me - bigger than a phone and smaller than an iPad. Just right.

Re: Google nexus 7
My son was home over the weekend and I played with his for a while. I have a kindle fire (rooted running ICS) and I didn't see a big difference. But I am probably going to up grade to a Galaxy tab2 7.0, has some feature that neither the kindle or nexus have. I really like the 7" form factor.

Thanks spuddog. I'm looking over the specifications for the Galaxy tab2 7.0 and Google Nexus 7 and comparing for the differences. It looks like the Galaxy tab2 has a rear facing 3mp camera, a microSD slot, options for RAM up to 32 gb (internal) and a series of Samsung ecosystem specific features.
The Nexus has a quad core processor at 1.2 ghz vs. dual core 1.0 ghz processor, 12 graphics execution units vs. could not find the details for the TI OMAP 4430, the Nexus has an IPS display vs. a PLS TFT, the Nexus resolution is 1280x800 vs. 1024x600.
The two models weigh almost exactly the same (5 grams difference). It's a tough choice between the two. They both look like they have features that might be attractive to different folks.

Re: Google nexus 7
Been waiting for something like the Nexus. My Nook Color running Android is just the right size but never really works like something running a system it was designed for, and the Nook interface is way too confining. Probably sell it soon.

Very pleased with the Nexus. It's a well built, sturdy piece of equipment. Seems snappy and does a real nice job at everything I've tried so far. Seems to be the ideal size for me to leave on the end table in the living room for casual browsing and communication while watching TV.
