Power Manager - issues

#1 Post by JPH » Tue Aug 14, 2012 3:14 pm

I had a weird incident today. My X220 was docked onto a mini dock port replicator and I plugged a WD USB 2.0 HDD Passport caddie into it via the mini docking. The machine just froze and trying to force shutdown via the power button did not work at all. After over 15 minutes I decided to undock it and remove the battery (a genuine 9-cell) to shut it down. The machine was rebooted and everything seemed fine except for the Power Manager now showing me 46% charge whereas it was fully charged. Upon clicking on the toolbar icon, it gave me a strange message about an error on battery 2 (which I do not have on the X220). The true capacity was fine etc but the reported percentage was wrong as well as the charger capacity which now showed 135W for a genuine Lenovo 90W.

When I went home I docked it into its ultrabay and the error was still there. I have now used my original 6 cell battery and the error is similar. So I have acronis'ed my whole machine as a result of that and it is still reporting half the battery charge, the wrong charger capacity and the 2nd battery error message. I have installed Power Manager 6.32 and the Power Manager driver 1.65. Now the battery icon in the toolbar is showing the correct percentage every 5 minutes but the Battery 2 error message is still there as well as the wrong charger capacity when you open PM.

This is driving me nuts! Anyone know if I have damaged my mobo or anything else in the process? And if not, how do I fix the PM reporting issues? Or do I send it to Lenovo for mobo replacement (I still have 2 yrs warranty left)?

What happens when ThinkPads die after years of loyal service, do they go to heaven?
