There's nothing for you to change, apart from the motherboard itself.

Professional BIOS recovery might prove too expensive to be justified on an old unit such as T43.

Good luck.

You can try a "crisis recovery". You will need a USB floppy and a custom-made parallel port dongle. See this post: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=100075

Well that's disconcerting! I figured running the little bios patch to mount a new "non IBM" hard drive would be trivial compared to converting from PATA to SATA.

Download T43_Recovery.zip.
Unzip this file.
Inside you will find two PDFs. They should help you. :)

Before proceeding, let's make sure you have both these items:
* A USB floppy drive.
* A parallel port / LPT jumper plug. You probably have to make one yourself according to the wiring diagram in the pdf files.

You need both of these to attempt crisis recovery.

Hi Twistero,

naturally I have a Usb Floppy Drive and Parallel Port. For the Lpt Jupper Plug I will do at the end, I dont think that it will be do it. Now Can you tell me how can I extract BIOS.WPH by running at command prompt: "e_bcpvpw.exe $0197000.FL1 BIOS.WPH"?
Thanks and regards.

Alright, so here is a step-by-step guide:

1. Extract T43_recovery.zip to somewhere you know. You need to know the full path name of the folder where e_bcpvpw.exe is located. For our purposes, let's assume this folder is "E:\crisis\T43_recovery".
2. Extract $0197000.FL1 into the same folder. Make sure both e_bcpvpw.exe and $0197000.FL1 are in the same folder.

3. Click on Start Menu -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Command prompt. OR, Press Windows key + R, type "cmd" and hit enter. Either way, you will see the "Command Prompt" window.
4. Type "E:" into the command prompt window and hit enter.
5. Type "cd \crisis\T43_recovery" and hit enter. Now, to the left of the blinking cursor you should see the full path of the folder, like "E:\crisis\T43_recovery>".
6. Type "dir" and hit enter. You should see a list of files in the current folder. Make sure both e_bcpvpw.exe and $0197000.FL1 are in the list.

7. Type "e_bcpvpw.exe $0197000.FL1 BIOS.WPH" and hit enter. The command should run, and if successful, you'll see BIOS.WPH in the same folder. If it doesn't work, try the alternate command as indicated: "e_bcpvpw.exe $0199000.FL1)BIOS.WPH"

Yes. Connect the USB floppy drive, insert a floppy disk, and run WINCRIS.exe.

Hi Twistero,

I have hit Wincrisis.exe and I put some setting:

Chose between:
Minidos Crisis Disk or Fulldos Crisis Disk or Format teh drive Diskette?
I think MiniDos Crisis Disk because I had to put in folder togheter BIOS.WPH file, a file with name MiniDos.Sys

After to put a fleg on:
Compress the bin file
Ibm CRTM Crisi Disks
I thin only on Ibm CRTM Crisis Disk

What are the setting that I have to put?

Please let me know and thanks and best regards

Thanks and regards.

I have no idea. Just try one of them, and if it doesn't work, try another.

There are beep code lists in the Hardware Maintenance Manuals and you find links to the T43 manuals right before the photos on this page.

Hi Orclas,

I have already the Ibm T43 Manulam, but thankyou very much: one long beep and two short beep and blank lcd = 1. System board. 2. LCD assembly. 3. DIMM. I think the problem is the error update of the modded Bios. Now I want recovery the original Bios throught "crisis recovery" on this post: viewtopic.php?. Now I am not at home. I will come back next week and will finish the operation and let you know. I hope that all will be ok. If you have other suggestions let me know.

Thank you very much and best regards.

Did the pc read the floppy before? or did you try to flash with a cd or usb thumb?
