X1 SSD
Re: X1 SSD
Why is that? It it a warranty violation to open up an X1 Carbon? You can do quite a bit of surgery on most thinkpads without voiding the warranty.
Assuming I don't care about warranty - do we know the drive type? Is it a 7mm drive? Is it uSATA? proprietary?
Is an HMM out yet?
Also - anyone know why you can only get 8GB with an i5? The main spec sheet says as much.

there are no CRUs, other than the power adapter afaik, for the x1c. therefore any mods will void the warranty.awolfe63 wrote:Why is that? It it a warranty violation to open up an X1 Carbon? You can do quite a bit of surgery on most thinkpads without voiding the warranty.

from what material i've seen, the ssd is not 2.5" 7mm. it oesn't look like standard msata, either, but the pinouts might be the same. whether it's lenovo proprietary, i don't now.
haven't seen any hmm yet.
there is some speculation that the i7 model has less ram because of cooling concerns, but no one is confirming that yet.

The Notebookcheck review is out:
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-Len ... 288.0.html
They've disassembled the machine and confirmed it's a proprietary SSD.

Have you considered using the cloud? I used to keep my files on my laptop but after using Dropbox, it is no longer needed. All of my employees, no matter what platform, can access all of our office files in the field. It simply works great and is CHEAP! 256GB SSD on my X1 is going to be MORE than ample for the purpose I use the X1.

Re: X1 SSD
I work with confidential information that for legal reasons cannot be stored in the cloud - even with encryption. I could segregate out the other information and only keep the confidential stuff on an SSD (still encrypted) and get bye with 256G. I'm still thinking about it. My guess is that to get 4G and docking, I'll get a T430S instead and live with the extra pound. That also means I can use a large, FDE, SSD.
