Trackpoint mark on LCD?
Re: Trackpoint mark on LCD?
Hm? At this point it's probably no use to edit the original message, as it will require a recursive edit of each one who replied

Nonny, were you really offended by it? I can edit it if you want? I know people access it from work. I didn't think it would be a problem since I was AT work when I wrote it (and my friends at my office read it and liked it, including women). But if it offended you that much I can delete that part.nonny wrote:Consider yourself called on it. Some of us access this forum from work.

You are right.. this is getting off topic. Sorry for having to put you through this. I appologize. But anyway? Anyone can think of any material other than a t-shirt fabric to put in between the keyboard and the LCD when it's closed in order for the c**t not to damage the screen?

No problem, took all of 1min. Besides, that is my duty as moderator.
Anyway, I think you have about 3 choices:
1.) Place something (fabric, paper, etc.) between trackpoint and screen every time you take it with you
2.) Change the trackpoint cap to a different style that leaves less or no print (or remove it altogether...is this an option?)
3.) Deal with it.
I am curious as to whether or not it's an issue with mine, we shall see in a few weeks.
By the way, is the mark some kind of permanent pressure mark on the screen or just a little grease? If its just dirt/oil, then maybe you should wash your hands before touching the c**t?!?

Second, it is not a grease/dirt/oil damage. It is a pressure demage.
But anyway. That's her laptop! Mine is coming soon and I am the only one that will get to play around with it!

Actually, yes, I was personally offended by your use of a vulgar sexual term for the TrackPoint.
Aside from that, the real problem is not the juvenile language. It's that some of us read the forum from work, and browsing web sites and forums that have vulgar language or graphics could get us fired.

I am not sure that is is a good idea to place something between the keyboard and the screen, I believe this can create more damage than it removes. The extra layer will simply increase the amount of surfaces which can come into contact.
As for the trackpoint, I think that there is a difference depending upon which of the trackpoints is used. Apparently the domed, rugged trackpoint ( where the center is the Highest point) causes the least amount of contact if any, whereas the inversed dome, smooth trackpoint ( the centre is the lowest point) is likely to cause the most contact.

I have the same problem.. I get a circular grease-mark on the screen, right where the trackpoint is. Maybe it's because I use the raised trackpoint cap, where people without the problem uses the one that is rounded downwards.
Btw: I wouldn't want to work in a place, where just looking at the word "c**t" could get you fired. Talk about a dreary/humorless place

Back to the scratches on the LCD, I'm sure I've seen something on IBM's website that says this is not covered under warranty. I can't find that statement now, but these links may be useful, even though they refer only tangentally to screen scratching.

http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.ws ... IGR-4A2P54Symptom: There is a scratch-like marking on the LCD. This might be a stain transferred from the TrackPoint or from the key tops of the keyboard when the cover was pressed from the outside.
