T43 updates in May, what are they?

#1 Post by rocketman » Sun Apr 24, 2005 7:38 am

I've read posts that there are to be T43 updates in May. What are the updates supposed to be and is it unusual for there to be updates so soon after a product release or are these just configurations that haven't been shipped yet?
Also is it possible that IBM can release a firmware fix for the much mentioned fan problems with the T43 series?

Updates come when they come. They are not subject to time frame or purpose.

Where are the sources for those posts?

its probably includes some very minor processor updates.

As for the firmware fix, anything is possible

Yesyes, especially the 2nd and even more so the 3rd.

I'd probably get the higher end model with the Fire card, but still 1 is a good suggestion. Better response would be nice but anythings better than my 4 yr old dell.

Most of all though I wish they had a firewire port and with the tablet having one I'm thinking we may see it showing up on the other models as well which would be great. Now if only IBM could be wise enough to include a full size firewire port.

1 is the only likely one. 2 is useless for a business machine (no gamer would buy a thinkpad to play games alone) and 3 would require a redesign of the machine, so it is more likely to be included in a future T50.

It's almost the middle of May, has anyone heard any more details about possible updates to the T43/T43p line?

I dont think it's wishfull thinking or a joke. Just like the T42 got upgraded fomr a Radeon 7500 to a Radeon 9600 - We can also expect this to happen with the T43 - BUT not within a few weeks or in this month. I believe that it will at least be 2-3 months before we see it happen and possibly longer.

Steve knows that what he said a few months ago is probably no longer true because the chineese are slowing everything down. Within the next week, I expect the may edition of tabook or whatever its called now to dispell the may update hopes. I think there wont be a T44, but they will go straight to T50, but im not waiting for another laptop model before I buy, personally.

Well the May tabook is out & I don't see any major updates/upgrades, as graphics are still the same on all T43/T43p as in previous tabook versions.

Does anyone know if the May 13th bios update for the T43 & T43p addressed the fan noise issues?

The only changes I saw were some price drops.

no T44 this year..

T42 will go through december..

T43 to end of Q1-06..

there MAY be a newer video chipset sometime but when is unknown to me..

some cpu's are constrained right now..
this might explain the delays..

T43p is SUPPOSED to be General Availability TOMORROW, May 24th..
true..?
who knows, but from past experience, unlikely..!

I am doubting that the X600 will find its way into the T43. The X600 consumes more power than the X300, and encroaches on the performance of the FireGL V3200. The X300 is also more than good enough for most people. Heck, even the Intel GMA900 is good enough for most, and has found its way into some T43s.

Hopefully I'll be proved wrong...
