Can I add Bluetooth to my W520?

#1 Post by yert33 » Wed Aug 22, 2012 11:11 am

I cannot believe that my boss' W520 does not have Bluetooth. I assumed all laptops would have Bluetooth by now, especially one built in sep '11. Anyway.... looking at the HMM I see two FRU's for Bluetooth daughter cards: 60Y3271 and 60Y3275.

Anyone know the difference in these two FRU's?

Can I just Plug'n'Play? Or do I need to update BIOS or something?

TIA....

Without having ever been close to a W520, I can't really believe it either. Have you made sure that it's a) enabled in the BIOS and b) that it's enabled in the wireless manager (Fn+F5 on my T400)?

not sure if this is what you're experiencing, but I ordered a W520 w/ Bluetooth and it wasn't showing up at all until I did the following (taken from Lenovo support forums):

Download the keyboard hotkey drivers and install them. It'll allow you to use the Functions at the top of your keyboard, then after you restart, hit Fn+F5 and you'll get a menu to enable Bluetooth on the OS, then Win7 should detect and install the drivers for it, or you can download the ones from Lenovo's site.

Yep, a Bluetooth card was not in the W520. I ordered one from eBay and installed it. Then turned Bluetooth on via Fn+F5 then Win7 installed some generic drivers upon first boot. After downloading and installing the Lenovo drivers...All Good!
