X61, is this good
okay, after doing some research, looks like i will be pulling the trigger on an X61, as an upgrade for my old but faithfull t40
Im looking at core 2 duo 2g t7300 with 160 gig HD and 2 gig ram and 12.1 XGA lcd, this will be a referb machine, and about the best spec i can get, loaded with win 7.........
any thing to watch out for with this model please

Refurbished by ?????????????????????????????????????
Unless it's Lenovo or IBM from an official website, I don't trust the term "refurbished" whatsoever.
Honestly, that's a very average X61. You should hold back for something with at least T8100 since Penryns run a lot cooler which is a big concern in X61 units...
Your money, your call.

Re: X61, is this good
I have not seen a single T8100 for sale here in the uk, the only way to get a better core 2 duo is with an R400 or an HP 6910p........i can just afford the HP but not the R400

Re: X61, is this good
For that kind of money you can get eg x200s in UK from an established corporate refurb supplier. An X61 could be had for almost half your budget.

Re: X61, is this good
FYI
I picked up a X200s for £140, and they are easy to get under £200.
X61's are easily available around the £100 mark.
T400s are around £175-£200 (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lenovo-T400-I ... 4d0440e923)

Re: X61, is this good
Ended up ordering an X61 2 ghz C2D with 2 g ram and 160 g HD running win 7, paid £125
I hear that the T7300 can run a bit warm, but this netbook will be doing most of its work outside on cold winter nights running craterlet capture soft ware and registax, with a ccd camera coupled to a large maksutov astro telescope

Re: X61, is this good
Well, im now using the X61, had a little issue with a keyboard error to start with (stuck key) but seems good now, as a bonus it was supposed to have a 2g T7300, but checking the spec its a 2.10 T8100
Re: X61, is this good
Nice bonus!

Re: X61, is this good
Not so good, the stuck key is a real pain, having general key board problems like spacing when not touching the space bar, might just need the keyboard reseating but its going back for an exchange unit...........bet i end up with a T7300 instead of the 8100

Re: X61, is this good
Why don't you just re-seat/replace the keyboard yourself?

Re: X61, is this good
But they'll be none the wiser if you do that...I'd definitely consider doing it, as the current T8100 X61 you have is a [censored] sight better than the T7300 X61 but that's just my tuppence worth.mrbojangles wrote:because i have a short warranty on this unit, if i mess around with it i will void said warranty

Re: X61, is this good
Hope i dont get chucked of for being a traitor
The X61 went back due to the problems, was getting worse, i struggled to find a thinkpad to replace it with, so i ended up getting the HP 6910p, 500 gb hard drive, C2D T9300 and 4g ram, but im keeping my old T40, still a really good machine
