Replacement LCD screen for X23

#1 Post by jmt » Sun Apr 24, 2005 8:38 pm

Tried EBay without luck. Any place else to find an economical replacement LCD screen for an X23?

I think the only alternative would be to call IBM for a quote. Have you tried yet?

Yes I have and it's $600.00 through them. Doesn't make sence when you can buy an HD ready 17" LCD TV for $300.00

In that case, I would call that "total loss" in car terms. I think you should just shop around for an X30 or something of the like as a replacement...best of luck!

Yes I agree as a mater of fact I have already replaced it with a T42 FVU. However I have a strong sentimental attachment to my X23. I retired as a professional pilot last January and for the previous 3 years it traveled the world with me serving without fault until last week when I dropped it at home.

Try these online retailers (I guess their prices are a bit friendlier, but still high):

We have GOT to start a Pilots with Thinkpads Forum!!!

Welcome aboard JMT, you'll find quite a few heavy metal pushers here and if you want to know who they are specifically just PM me. A lot of GA pilots here as well.

You anywhere near Oshkosh? (Hint, hint!)

PS: PM with what you consider an economical price would be to repair your beloved X machine, I'll check a few sources.

You can always consider buying someone's broken X2* machine, just as long as you know their screen works and that it'll fit your machine.

I've often seen X2* machines up on ebay for as little as $75 that come with a perfect LCD (but the mainboard is dead).

James, thanks for the welcome. You run into airplane "drivers" in the most interesting places.

Thanks for the offer on the screen however, I took dmdsoftware (above post) advice and found an X22 with a good screen on EBay.

I live about a 50 min. drive from Oshkosh. When I had my "Pitts" dealership (side business when I was home) I went up yearly. If your planning on attending let me know.

Best regards,
Mike
