t21 Display too small :(

#1 Post by pl8er » Sun Apr 24, 2005 10:04 pm

Hi, I was given a blank T21 from a friend and I have tried every driver I can think of to make this thing look halfway decent and I can't seem to get it to work. The driver keeps it at 1400X1050 resolution and if I change it to 1024X768 I end up with black box all the way around the screen. Has anyone had this problem and do they know how I can fix it? Also, I have read online that the "F1" key gets me into the bios but it ignores that and will not let me in. Any ideas? Thanks so much.

Justin

try do not change resolution. better is to change font's DPI.

Display properties/Display/Advanced/Font size. Try to change fonts to 120DPI. It should work.

Thanks for the info. I will try doing that. I just can't understand why they would make the resolution so darn high. When its running at that resolution (1400X1050) the screen saver runs really laggy. I will try what you said though, Thanks again!

There's no necessity or benefit to run a screensave on an LCD. It's actually counter-productive when you realize that it's ALWAYS running, just not always in the foreground!

Turn off the screensaver and just set the display to turn off at whatever period of elapsed time you prefer.

pl8er, look for something in your display properties called "Scale image to panel size" and check the box.

This will scale the 1024x768 resolution to the entire LCD panel, thus ridding the black borders.

Can't seem to locate the "Scale image to panel size" but that sounds exactly like what I would be looking for. Could you tell me where to find it? I am running windows xp pro. Thanks!

My "Scale image to panel size" option is found through:

Display Properties -> Advanced -> Displays -> Panel

Although I'm not sure yours would be exactly the same, but chances are it's around there somewhere.

It's possible you may need to turn on screen expansion in the BIOS. To access the BIOS setup utility using F1, turn off the machine, turn on the machine and hit F1 while it's booting. Navigate to Config-->Display-->HV Expansion and make sure "On" is selected.

If you got the machine "Blank", you can get the appropriate drivers and system utilities for your machine from the IBM support website. (Sorry but I don't have the url where I am currently)

Are you serious? Just turned off my screensaver. Thanks for the tip.

The reason there was screen saver back in the days when when all computers used CRT monitors, was to prevent burning your monitor with images after prlonged exposure. LCD monitors do not have this problem, so screen saver is not needed. LCD monitors instead have a certain backlight lifetime. The more your LCD is on it will degrade your backlight (very slowly though), which become dimmer and change colors. So turning off the monitor instead of using a screen saver is more effective in lengthening LCD lifetime.
