T400 Motherboard Replacement

#1 Post by ervink » Sat Sep 01, 2012 12:14 pm

I have a T400 7417-RH4 with a 60Y 3751 motherboard which I am starting to believe is bad. I have tested, and retested everything. It will boot up and after a various (5-20 min) amount of time it freezes up, then after sitting for about minutes will reboot to a black screen, then after a couple minutes it will reboot again. This time when it comes on there is an error saying windows did not load properly. Once it's off, if I leave it sit for about 20 minutes it bots back up, but the same thing happens.
If it was running longer before it froze up I would think overheating, but not after 5 minutes.
My question is....What is a compatible drop in replacement MOBO?
I found one that is a 60Y 3761, will that work to replace my 60Y 3751?
If I change it will I need to flash it, or download anything to it?
I replaced one on my old T40 that I bought for somebody on this board and it came flashed and updated.
What can I use to replace the board I have? FRU # please.
thanx

I had the exact same problem as you, and it most definitely was the motherboard. As for compatible replacements for drop, it depends on what you were using. Your board has TPM installed, if you don't care about TPM it opens up your choices.

Drop in compatible boards with TPM:
60Y3755
60Y3757
60Y3751

Drop in compatible boards w/o TPM:
60Y3750
60Y3754
60Y3756

The ones that aren't your exact same FRU may have extra features like V-Pro and AMT, but they are all the same size so the drop in is quick and easy, and you can ignore the extra features just fine if you wish.
