#1 Post by Kasm279 » Mon Sep 03, 2012 11:18 am

What different brands of keyboards were available on the T40 series, and how do you tell the difference? Basically, does anyone have information for somethin like this but for the T40 instead of the T60 series?

There were three brands available: ALPS, Chicony and NMB. The last one is usually referred to as "Thai" because for the most of the T4x series production it was manufactured in Thailand. The manufacturing was later moved to China.

The page that you're looking for is here:

On another note, if you're looking for a replacement keyboard, I've got several from each of these manufacurers available, U.S. English layout only.

Remove the KB, compare the PN or FRU number with the HMM: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail. ... MIGR-46464

Is there a way to visually identify them without removing them from the system? I guess there is a *slight* chance that the key mechanisms didn't change for the T60...

Thanks, I figured that the mechanisms of the T60 and T40 were the same between brands. It seems that his T40 has an NMB keyboard, using the FRU number. However, contrary to popular belief, we both preferred the NMB keyboard in my T60p. We liked that the keys required less force to depress, but otherwise they felt basically the same. We also both agree, though, that the 600E (and the other classic ThinkPads) have the best keyboards.

I'd say the popular belief is that NMB is best, that's even the conclusion in the link you provided in your OP
