thinkpad x230t screw defective

#1 Post by person400000 » Mon Sep 03, 2012 12:27 pm

the right screw to the ram door on my x230t is defective
i have been able to unscrew every screw besides this 1

forgive the poor quality
i haven't used a web camera before

picture of the left working screw that unscrews fine;

picture of the right defective screw that doesn't unscrew;

i bought a 12 piece precision screwdriver set
none of them worked
all the screwdrivers i had didnt work
even the screwdrivers that worked on other screws

thinking about going to the hardware store to remove it
and maybe hopefully get a copy replacement of it

dont think i'm gonna take it to a computer shop
not sure if they know how to open it or have replacements

i actually have a 4 year warranty on my thinkpad x230t
so i guess i could send it back to china to have it fixed
but it took a long time, about 2 weeks, to get here
so i dont know if i can wait that long again just for this

what should i do?

  • cant get out a tight stripped screw in tablet p.c.
  • look on the internet and ask for help for hours
  • no suggestions work with the very few tools i have
  • ready to leave for hardware store with tablet p.c.
  • see big, flatter head, narrow end, phillips screwdriver
  • didnt want to risk it ruining the screw further before
  • what the hell
  • apply pressure
  • turn screwdriver
  • stripped screw budges
tl;dr i got the stripped screw out

thank you very much for your help
