trying to get a CMOS battery for a TRANSNOTE
trying to get a CMOS battery for a TRANSNOTE
Anybody here got an idea where i can get a compatible cmos batery for a Transnote. Naturaly i saw some on Ebay so i bought a couple and then found out that the connector is completely wrong. Should be a long thin connector almost a centimeter long with 2 wires. The one i was sent was a short stubby connector like the ones on the X3x series...
There must be another laptop out there that uses a similar style connector to the Transnote

Re: trying to get a CMOS battery for a TRANSNOTE
Buy one for ThinkPad 600 CR2025, cut the cable of it and the cable of the old Transnote CMOS battery and solder the 600-battery to the cable of the Transnote.
Insulate the solder well
Take care not to short the cable while cutting and soldering.

Re: trying to get a CMOS battery for a TRANSNOTE
think soldering will have to be my next option. Was hoping to try to keep it all as original as possible. The Transnote has 2 CMOS batteries in series in it's little yellow shell.
I am sure there must be an equivalent from another laptop maker of that era.

Re: trying to get a CMOS battery for a TRANSNOTE
From the pictures that I can find on the web, the two CR2012 coin batteries inside the yellow wrap are connected in parallel, not series. This would yield a voltage at the plug of 3V but have double the current capacity of a single battery (~110mAH for the pair versus only ~55mAH for one battery). You may be able to replace the original 02K6682 battery pack with a single CR2016 battery as noted in the reference link below. It is only slightly thicker than the original battery (1.6mm vs. 1.2mm). The 2016 battery may be hard to find; more popular ones are 2025 and 2032 but they are 2.5mm and 3.2mm thick.

Re: trying to get a CMOS battery for a TRANSNOTE
very useful. I have 2 Transnotes so i guess i could have 2 attempts to construct a working CMOS battery.
Or i could solder a battery onto the existing wires.
Thanks for all your help guys.

Re: trying to get a CMOS battery for a TRANSNOTE
It is recommended that you do not attempt to solder wires directly on the surfaces of the coin battery. Lithium can react very badly with excessive heat. By that, I mean it can explode.

Re: trying to get a CMOS battery for a TRANSNOTE
instead of soldering, use thermo-shrink tube
it's way safer than soldering, but require caution too..
you can solder thin pieces of metal to wires, stack it all together with battery, and apply hest to shrink tube, being careful not to overheat battery
sorry for my english... it deteriorate due to disuse it..

Re: trying to get a CMOS battery for a TRANSNOTE
Thanks, never thought of the heat-shrink. think i have some somewhere too. In fact my new cr2012s arrived today, so when i get a chance i will have a go at creating a working cmos battery assembly.
found a product called wire-glue on the internet. wonder if that will work??
